Untitled. Charis Kern 2022

“Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.”
James 5: 7-8

The third Sunday in Advent is Joy. This passage in James speaks of how Joy is birthed out of Patience. In Greek and Latin ‘patience’ translated as long-suffering. James is addressing persecuted Christians with the promise that something good is going to come out of their waiting, their suffering, their perseverance at growing in strength, and their remembering – by reading the prophets who also waited for the first advent. One of Joy’s parents could be named “Patience”.
